New Diet, Try It

A new day, a new month, a new year is a perfect time to start something new. Well, with this new year upon us, I've decided I'm going to start a new diet.

Diet? Hmmm, it's funny, because I mentioned to my sister-in-law about going on a diet. She said she doesn't do them. She says everything in moderation. I thought what a great way to view food. Everything is moderation. Anyone can get too much of anything. You can even overkill on water. Yep, believe it or not.

I watched the news about some college sororities who make new members drink gallons of waters as part of their initiation. Some kids have died because of it. You can get too much of a good thing, even when our bodies are made up of 70% of it.

Back to dieting, however. They say in the United States we are a diet conscious society, but are still quite unhealthy. Eating healthy takes time, energy, and effort. I'm not talking about being a vegetarian or a vegan. That lifestyle takes alot forethought. However, I went to a vegan conference a few months ago and many people expressed how it wasn't as difficult as thought. I'm not sure I believed them but that's what they said.

It's so much easier to swing through McD's or Jack's to get a quick meal. Then, it's so much tastier to get the Big Mac or Double Cheeseburger instead of a (boring) salad. Sorry, salad lovers, I've never been a fan of the lettuce. Sure, I eat it, but I've never been a fan. In this fast-paced life, it's quicker to drive through.

I've decided for the new year and hopefully beyond to make better choices when it comes to my driving-through. Notice I didn't say I was going to stop altogether. But, I will make better choices. One day at a time, one meal at a time.

There are foods I know I don't need much of, like, um, sweets, sugar in all its forms. So I'm going to be picky with my choices. Picky in my choices of what I eat, what I drink, what I watch, listen to and feed my heart and mind. All this for my health, for myself. Discernment and moderation in all is the key.

That's my new diet. What is your new diet? What will you take into your mouth, your mind, your heart this upcoming year? May you make choices in life to contribute to your health lastingly. Are you thinking of a new diet? Go on, do it, just try it.
